Tablet Weaving Workshop
(Card Weaving)
Ancient Tradition, Endless Possibilities
You are invited to learn the language of tablet weaving
a fascinating, time-honored technique used for centuries to create narrow bands adorned with rich and intricate patterns. In its magic, this ancient weaving method embodies the
.genius of simplicity
Its charm lies precisely in its simplicity: cards (tablets), threads, and the rotation of the cards
create a wondrous system of possibilities. You can weave geometric patterns, motifs, figures, symbols, and lettering
I teach tablet weaving from a place of connection between ancient tradition and ongoing exploration and creation. Students can design new patterns and gradually discover the vast potential hidden within this technique.
In my own wall-hanging tapestries, I have broken through the traditional width and size limitations that have existed in this craft for thousands of years, creating wide weavings and large-scale wall hangings. My widest weaving consists of 418 cards :-) My students also continue to explore, dare, push boundaries, and challenge conventions. Within our weaving circles, incredible card-woven tapestries and exceptionally large, complex works are born. Some of these pieces combine tablet weaving with floor loom weaving, experimenting with diverse materials and creating personalized designs.
The gallery before you is part of that journey—a journey of students, of creation, and of a continuous search for the possibilities held within this magical technique. I view tablet weaving as a living language—an ancient tradition that continues to live, evolve, and surprise.
Studies take place in Yodfat throughout the year as part of our weekly weaving circles, as well as in concentrated workshops during the summer and holidays. You are warmly invited to join :-)
